Senior Housing / Multi-Family Housing Lead Based Paint Compliance

The Consumer Product Safety Commission banned the use of lead in house paint in 1978. The Lead Safe Housing Rule (LSHR) defines the requirements and exemptions for federally-owned housing and/or housing receiving federal assistance.

If you are refinancing and your property was built before 1978 you are required to test for lead based paint. However, housing for the elderly, or a residential property designated exclusively for persons with disabilities are exempt from this mandate.
